COMPOSITION ON "SACRIFICE"
The very word "sacrifice" evokes in our mind the idea of something sublime. Of course with primitive people who were steeped in superstitious beliefs used to look on sacrifice as a practice or ritual. By offering or sacrificing a poor animal, they would worship and appease the gods. But real sacrifice cannot be confined to a ritualistic practice. It is deeply rooted in the mind of man, manifesting itself through human love and compassion. People who love humanity can make the most signal sacrifice. Such people are truly great. Our soldiers are real lovers of mankind. Out of love for the country as well as for the people they don't falter to sacrifice themselves. So we see the word 'sacrifice' has a deeper connotation than we superficially assume. It is scarcely at all a mere votive offering made by primitive people in the name of religion.
True love gets sanctified by the holy fire of sacrifice. I think sacrifice is associated with the religion of love. God expects every human being to become a selfless sacrificer. It is selfless acts of sacrifice that can make a man, a superman. Let alone the selfish thought of "self" we must think about the happiness of others who live around us because we know the maxim- He prayeth best who loveth best.
In fact a mother is a real sacrificer. She sacrifices for her children, for her family. She lives for others and does everything for the sake of their happiness. She try to make her family happy by giving her best and even sacrificing all the good things of life. The sages and saints of the past and present have taught us wise and weighty lesson of sacrifice for self-realisation and spiritual salvation.
To conclude, sacrifices can be made through love. Greed and rapacity debases the spirit of sacrifice. A man can rise to greater heights of human dignity if he is possessed of the quintessential quality of sacrifice.
